Lakehouse Cameron Highlands
The Lakehouse Cameron Highlands is a charming Tudor building sitting on a hill overlooking the Sultan Abu Bakar Lake. With its relaxing and cosy interiors, the moment you step in you would feel the warmth of ambience. Once I overheard a guest who had just arrived and sat slouched on one of the big-winged armchairs and said, "I could really become fat living here!"
Such is the charm of Lakehouse Cameron Highlands. With their superb hospitality and cosy surroundings, I am sure I would too. Even if you are not staying overnight as guest, dropping eat for an English afternoon tea and scones with Devonshire cream is certainly a must!
Brief History
Lakehouse Cameron Highlands was built by an eccentric retired army officer, Colonel Stanley Foster in 1972. He wasn't very friendly and always chased away any Asian visitors with a whip or a cane! He even posted up a sign saying, "No Dogs, No Children, No Asians Allowed!"
Somehow Colonel Stanley Foster felled for the charms of a Chinese woman and got married, not once, but twice! As they said, the harder they are, the harder they fall. In this case, falling in love! Which is a good I thing I suppose.
In 1984, Colonel Stanley Foster passed away and the property was sold and the place became known as the Lakehouse. Now it is managed by HPL Hotels and Resorts which also runs the Concorde Hotels around Malaysia.
Room and Board
Staying over in the Lakehouse Cameron Highlands is indeed a luxury. The rooms are well maintained and the services provided top notch. The room decor is styled in the old English tradition though the bathroom is equipped with modern utility. If you really still want to experience old fashion bath, then go for those old bungalows in Cameron Highlands. As a star rated establishment they can't have that! You can choose rooms that face the lake or the hills.
For the pub goer, they have a very English style bar. I'm sure you would definitely take a couple of photos there! So pose away with your family and friends!
Wait! The interior is not the only captivating place to grab a few photo shots. The garden and verandah area too should not be missed, unless of course you experience balmy weather. The setting is perfect for those who would like to have their wedding photos taken too! The place is so beautiful that once I've seen a group of people doing a commercial shot. With beautiful models in their dresses and heavy makeup, camera crews and directors taking a break in the lounge after shooting session.
Packages
So if you really gearing up to stay over but find the pricing prohibitive you could check with them for any package deal. The last I checked they were offering something like 3D/2N for something RM800 (US$250) that includes a two night stay in a deluxe room, daily breakfast for two, a complimentary afternoon English tea, some vigorous jungle trekking activities and some countryside tour of good old Cameron Highlands, which should include the ever popular tea plantations. Of course all this is subject to change so do inquire with them for their current offer and packages.
