Tapah route - this was the old route to Cameron Highlands. The roads are narrower and winding. Overtaking other slower vehicles would require good driving skill and road judgement. Not for the faint hearted!
This route is best used during peak holiday season as it avoids the traffic congestion caused by Kea Farm and Brinchang Night Market.
Some interesting scenic view when using this route. You will pass by the Lata Iskander Waterfalls. You might want to take a break in your journey and enjoy the cool waters running by, or perhaps buy some pottery and souvenirs from the shops along the road. This route will also take you pass the Sultan Abu Bakar Lake (Ringlet Lake) and of course you get to take a break the Shalimar Tea House with a splendid view of the Bharat Tea Plantation! Thereafter you would reach Tanah Rata.
Simpang Pulai route - this is the new route to Cameron Highlands. The road is wider and easier to drive. However do watch out for the oncoming cars coming downhill that might cross over to your lane as many cars tend to speed downhill.
Important note! DO NOT use this route during peak holiday season. The road congestion is really bad once you enter Kg Raja / Kuala Terla. You would need at least another two hours from the village to Brinchang or Tanah Rata. You have been warned!
Interesting points along this route. There are three big markets along this route which you can stop by for breaks or buying vegetables. Useful if you want to buy last minute items on the way back down from Cameron Highlands. Using this route you will pass by Kampung Raja, Kuala Terla and Tringkap. There are some sights and attractions in Tringkap like Rose Garden and a row of markets with a mini bee museum. For breaks, you can grab a cup of tea at the Bharat Tea House next to their tea plantation. The view is not so breathtaking here though.
