YTL Cameron Highlands Resort

Cameron Highlands Resort, managed by YTL Hotels, is one of the most luxurious hotels in Cameron Highlands. Of course such luxury comes with a price, and for those who can afford, then get ready to be pampered. For the rest of us, we can only drool at the prospect of perhaps, one day, just one day we may get a chance to splurge on such luxury.

Cameron Highlands Resort was formerly the Merlin Hotel. YTL bought over the it and decided to renovate and upgrade into a high class hotel. Having bought over many hotel properties all around Malaysia, I suppose Cameron Highlands is as good as any place to have a welcomed presence of YTL Midas touch to it.

This resort is located between Tanah Rata and Brinchang, overlooking an 18-hole golf course. You definitely can't miss this hotel as you will pass by it when you go between the towns.

Cameron Highlands Resort has an interesting English Colonial theme to it giving it a different class in comparison with the other star rated hotels located around Cameron Highlands. Impeccably dressed staffs in the white uniforms and well mannered too. They also have a very heavily theme around the famous Jim Thompson character and naming its lounge area after him. To keep in tune with Jim Thompson theme, they also set up a Jim Thompson shop selling souvenirs and silk from Thailand. So now you don't have to go all the way to Bangkok and buy any of Jim Thompson's souvenir from the Jim Thompson House in Bangkok. If you got the chance to visit Bangkok, do visit the Jim Thompson House to learn more about this revered man who helped rebuild the Thai Silk Industry. He was not called the Thai Silk King for nothing, you know!

As for room accommodation, I may yet get to stay here one day, just need to watch out for some promotion, because the walk in rate is way too steep for me. From what I see in their promotional pictures, it looked great!

If you are not thinking of splurging around for a weekend stay, you could still get to try out their hospitality by having an English afternoon tea and scones set. The set does not just include the usual tea and scones with Devonshire cream, but include various other tit bits as well. Enough to feed a couple! So what I did was share a set with my wife and we had a jolly good afternoon tea. Do note that it is very filling so you might consider skipping lunch.

With the well decorated interiors, this could very well be the perfect place to have your wedding photos taken too. Come to think of it, you could even consider this place as a romantic getaway honeymoon vacation. Bring along your wedding photographers and snap away!

Apart from the usual room and board, they are also into day spas. They theme their spas according to local flavours and invoking a aura of relaxing mood. Ummm... a really good way to knock out those kinks in your body. You don't have to be staying guest to enjoy a day spa. So it is worth considering if you plan to have an extra relaxing time in Cameron Highlands!
